All I’m saying is I don’t support the notion of broadly generalising an entire gender in the name of progress. Yes, I’ll freely admit to being a judgemental and generalising prick in the past and saying some truly ignorant shit. But it’s this kind of stuff, among other things, that perpetuates the idea that men are on one side and women are on the other.

It’s unhealthy to take the view that the vocal minority within a group, no matter how large or small that group may be, is representative of the group as whole. A muslim extremist is not representative of all muslims; the KKK is not representative of all white people; and a 14 year old kid on Xbox (as described in the source post) is not representative of all men (or “most straight white guys”).

I am very mad about rape and the wiser I become, the angrier I get. Ignorance is rampant and should be addressed whenever possible; even if it’s within your own ‘team.’

And I’m just saying that a) this is obviously a joke, ie, obviously I don’t think every single guy is like this and b) generalising straight dudes like this isn’t in any way harmful to men in the same way that generalising Muslims as extremists would be for example. (And generalising all white people as the KKK wouldn’t be harmful in the same way either)

Also, erasing the idea that men are on one side and women are on the other is also very harmful because it negates the idea that we each have different experiences. The problem with this simplistic view of equality is that it ignores the unique struggles of specific groups, which is an incredibly important thing to acknowledge. It’s like Celia said in this video, if we were all kind of on the same playing field in society at the moment, this view would be an important way to protect equality, but as it goes the playing field isn’t level, and therefore we shouldn’t treat every group in the same way (She puts it a lot more articulately than me). We have to acknowledge that each group has their own struggles in order to be able to target and deal with those struggles effectively.
